Our History
The River Region Chamber of Commerce has a rich history rooted in resilience, collaboration, and a shared vision for economic growth.
2002: The Challenge
The Chamber’s journey began during a period of significant transformation within the New Orleans Regional Chamber of Commerce (NORCC). Internal challenges and structural inefficiencies within the NORCC’s “Area Councils,” including those representing the River Parishes, highlighted the need for change. River Parishes businesses voiced concerns over a lack of autonomy and tailored services, leading to declining memberships and strained relationships.
2003: A New Beginning
Recognizing the need for localized leadership, a dedicated group of River Parishes business leaders formed a task force in mid-2003. Their goal was clear: establish a self-sustaining organization focused on the unique needs of the River Parishes. After months of collaboration and planning, the River Area Council Executive Committee approved a transition plan in August 2003.
By the end of 2003, the River Area Council and the NORCC dissolved, paving the way for a new era. The River Region Chamber of Commerce emerged as an independent organization in January 2004, equipped to address the priorities of local businesses and regional economic development.
Today: A Thriving Legacy
Since its founding, the River Region Chamber of Commerce has become a cornerstone of business advocacy, fostering strong partnerships and driving impactful initiatives. From supporting startups to influencing regional policy, the Chamber remains steadfast in its mission to serve as a catalyst for progress and prosperity in the River Parishes.
